5-2 Blog: Visual Displays Related to Special Events
When it comes to promotions in retail, your goal is to catch the eye of shoppers with your sale or promotion. Many retailers will do this by utilizing eye-catching color or even a large sign that has the low price in big bold letters. One of the main stores I enjoy shopping at for deals is Bath and Body Works because they always have the most colorful displays, especially during the holidays. In this photo, you can see the holiday display to Buy 3, Get 3 Free for their body fragrances. Since the time of year this visual display is assembled is near the holidays, they can utilize colorful displays to catch the eye of shoppers. By putting the idea into shopper's heads that if they purchase these fragrances as a gift or for themselves, they will encourage them to "have the perfect Christmas". The theme for the holidays complements the promotion because many people will be out shopping for gifts for their friends and family and these products can align directly with finding the perfect gift to give them. I also think it should be noted that on each stand, they emphasize that they are new fragrances and that shoppers should come in to test them out before they commit to the purchase. The first step is to initially get the shoppers into the store.
The color scheme can make or break the overall promotional appearance. "You will want to limit the number of colors you work with to create a harmonious visual experience for your customers," (Hodge, 2022). By going by the idea that 'less is more' you won't overwhelm your customers and deter them from coming in your store. If your presentation is too confusing or overwhelming, consider toning it down and making it have a more simple appearance.
