5-2 Blog: Visual Displays Related to Special Events

Image
When it comes to promotions in retail, your goal is to catch the eye of shoppers with your sale or promotion. Many retailers will do this by utilizing eye-catching color or even a large sign that has the low price in big bold letters. One of the main stores I enjoy shopping at for deals is Bath and Body Works because they always have the most colorful displays, especially during the holidays. In this photo, you can see the holiday display to Buy 3, Get 3 Free for their body fragrances. Since the time of year this visual display is assembled is near the holidays, they can utilize colorful displays to catch the eye of shoppers. By putting the idea into shopper's heads that if they purchase these fragrances as a gift or for themselves, they will encourage them to "have the perfect Christmas". The theme for the holidays complements the promotion because many people will be out shopping for gifts for their friends and family and these products can align directly with finding...

3-2 Blog: Proper Selection for Mannequin Uses

Image
When it comes to selecting a mannequin style for your store, it can be challenging, but yet also very rewarding. There is quite a variety of different types and each one can bring in its's own aspect of retail to help boost your customer experiences. While selecting a mannequin style for a boutique store, it's best to utilize a realistic mannequin  because it allows shoppers to get the feel for the entire outfit(s) instead of just small aspects of it. Often, boutiques will have a variety of wearable merchandise, that includes jewelry, headwear and glasses. By using realistic mannequins, you can display the entire ensemble. Many realistic mannequins have wigs that you can style accordingly to your desired style and can help encourage shoppers to get the entire look.    Headless mannequins  are a great option for mass merchant stores because they do not express any emotion and are often very basic. Mass merchant stores often mass produce clothing and other mercha...

2-2 Blog: Store Fixtures and Visual Merchandising

Image
After watching the video for Barr Display, I realized how much thought and effort goes into selecting the displays for a retail store there really is. There are so many different options to choose from for each category including size, shape, and colors. Your goal is to draw in your target market before they even step foot into your store, and by giving them an exceptional experience you can encourage them to want to come back to shop with you again. For displaying clothing, it’s important to consider how you want your customers to view the merchandise and the effects of the displays. For an upscale clothing store, it would not be wise to have “cheap” plastic looking hangers since you are trying to promote a pricier brand. Utilizing a nicer hanger for clothing such as the wooden ones would present your brand much more effectively. You can also utilize shelving units to display your merchandise, but it is important that if you are going to select high shelving units, to not display ...

6-2 Blog: Marketing Perspective

I always find myself on social media throughout the day, and I follow quite a few influencers that I find amusing in various ways. An influencer that I follow is called The Pasta Queen because I love pasta dishes and she always has such good looking recipes that I want to try. This type of marketing allows celebrities to influence their followers to purchase merchandise or services from companies that contract with them. For example, Dunkin' has a contract with Charli D'Amelio, who is a well known social media influencer. Dunkin' will give Charli free products to wear or consume and she is required to post on her social media platforms about the products to "convince" her followers that it is the best out there and that they should buy it too because she uses it. They made a huge increase in iced coffee sales when Charli began posting about drinking iced coffee from Dunkin'. The content that influencers post is typically short and sweet and doesn't requir...

4-2 Blog: Effectively Impacting the Consumer Through Digital Media

In the article Tale of the Tiger: Customer Service , the needs of the audience were met by the employee that took time on his own lunch break to brighten a child's day. The employee was not obligated to take photos of the stuffed tiger doing fun things around the airport, but he did it to make someone else's day just a little bit better. This was a great way to make a lasting impression on a family and on the general public. After viewing the article posted about the airport employee, it reached many people across the world including Germany.  Once Tampa International Airport posted the story on their Facebook page, it began to spread like wildfire and people from everywhere were commenting and reacting to the post. It was featured on national news outlets such as CNN, ABC News and Good Morning America. Social media followers supported the actions of the airport employee and received more than 3 million views, and over 115,000 interactions.  Tampa International Airport w...

1-2 Blog: A Day In The Life of Alyssa

Websites and applications that I visit most often are Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitch and LinkedIn. Facebook is a website that I use to stay in contact with my friends and family back in Massachusetts, ever since I moved to Florida back in July 2020. I don’t use Facebook for much other than keeping in contact with them, but I do enjoy memes that I find on there from time to time. When using Instagram, I am usually viewing trending topics and celebrity gossip. I often find posts and videos from tv shows and movies that I’m interested in, and sometimes I may find new products that I am interested in trying. I usually use YouTube as a source of music playlists that I listen to while doing homework or relaxing. I am also a fan of using YouTube for tutorial videos when I am making DIY projects at home. Twitch is mainly when I have downtime at home and want to watch gameplay for either new games I’m interested in or watching gamers play nostalgic games from my childhood. I enjoy s...
